Candling Eggs

Here isa picture of our candling box. It is a wooden box with a light bulb inside and a hole cut out on top.

Here is a picture of a non-fertilized egg being candled. The egg yolk is still small on day 13, which means there probably isn't an egg growing.

Here is a picture of the embryo growing strong. We could see veins and possibly a head, too.

This is the same egg from a different view.


This egg showed us the best example of a fertilized egg.

Day 8-9

Day 8 Feathers are forming for some.
Day 9 Embryo should begin to look bird like, and mouth opening is starting to appear.

34 eggs in the incubator.


We are incubating white and brown eggs.


On the first day we numbered the eggs so we could monitor their progress.

Why are we doing this?

We are raising these chicks to see how life begins, how chicks develop, and how they react to new enviorments. Also, we are doing this project to show we are responsible and that we can work together (wish us luck!) The benifits of raising chicks are to have an understanding of life by watching them grow up.
